1		We’re here to support you, not restrict you In running a team of this size, I’m acutely aware that sometimes things go wrong and sometimes there’s frustration at the processes we have to implement to create an efficient and effective environment. But I would ask you to recognise we’re all on the same team here, and to understand that our goal is to support you not to restrict you. As such, we are very open to constructive suggestions as to how we can improve the way we support the business.

2		The age of enlightenment...? Working in 2011 is a blessing; companies are enlightened enough to respect all functions and the value they bring to the business. I would therefore ask that we don’t slide back into the Dark Ages and instead show our recognition of, and appreciation for, the outstanding work the facilities team is doing.

3		The office can be where the heart is too Put simply, if we treat our working environment with the same respect as we treat our homes, facilities would be improved, morale would go up and inefficiencies would go down. So let’s start with some simple guidelines as to how we can make this happen...

4		How can you help us help you? Talk to us Communicate – it’s as simple as that. We can’t fix an issue if we don’t know about it. Whilst we continually monitor our environment we can’t be everywhere, so if you see something wrong please let us know immediately and we’ll be on it.

5		Let us work with you Today I want to talk about the role of facilities and admin - a role that is often overlooked until something goes wrong. In our team we have dedicated professionals who work hard to provide the right environment to help this company succeed. What we need to be truly effective is to be made aware of your needs and plans so that we can provide for them.
