1		Fish, Bicycles and Boardrooms Feminist leaders used to have a saying: “a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.” I’m still not sure I know what THAT means. I can remember a time when some business leaders thought having women in the boardroom was pretty fishy too. But times have changed. Nowadays, success in business is less about gender, and more about how many fish you catch.

2		An enlightened time for women I’m lucky to be a woman in business today. We all are. There are a whole host of laws and policies and HR structures designed to eliminate the glass ceiling. I know that sometimes they don’t feel like enough. It’s not so much the glass ceiling that bangs us on the head, but the glass rungs on the way up that threaten our climb. But society has come far and now more than ever, success is genderless.

3		We’re a lot further on Apparently, the mother of playwright Alan Bennett would invite her female friends to the house and they would have long discussions. When they left, Mr Bennett would reflect, rather sadly, “You know, Alan, I wouldn't mind, but when they’re done you're no further on." Now, women’s voices are not just heard they are listened to. As a result, business is a lot further on.
